| Periodically reviewing
your life insurance policies is always a good idea.
As your life changes so do your life insurance needs.
Something such as a divorce may prompt you to think
that you don’t need as much life insurance or
possible drop it all together, this may not be an accurate
way to think however.
Let’s say you did not have any kids when you where
married, and now that you are divorced you have no one
that depends on you, this may reduce your need for coverage.
Since the main reason you had life insurance to being
with was in order to leave something behind for you
family. It is possible however that a divorce can bring
about a need to get more coverage.
First of all if you have any children, whether or not
you’re their primary guardian your children still
depend on you. Also some of the terms of the divorce
settlement may change your need for life insurance.
Some settlements require you to get insurance or keep
up the life insurance you currently have with your ex
as the beneficiary.
It is a good idea to get
some professional help to look over your policies
with you; they can help you make decisions based on
what you need. They can help you change your beneficiary,
if your divorce settlement didn’t require you
to have life insurance with your ex as the beneficiary
you may want to change this as soon as possible. If
you do not have someone assisting you with this you
may need to call up your insurance company to gain the
necessary information to do this.
It is always important to make sure that you have the
right
insurance for your needs. Your insurance
agent can help you find what you need, but remember
it is always important to shop around for insurance,
and know the background of the company you are buying
from. You may also receive group life insurance from
your employer, or if another cheap method is required
you can get low-term life insurance. It is always important
to remember that as your life changes so will your life
insurance needs, so always check it periodically.
